Which envelope size should I choose?

Choose DL (110 x 220mm) for everyday letters, C5 (162 x 229mm) for an A4 sheet folded once or an A5 booklet, and C4 (229 x 324mm) for A4 documents that must arrive flat.

All three sizes are printed in full colour and close with a peel-and-seal flap.

DL wallet, 110 x 220mm (our default). The standard business envelope. It takes an A4 letter folded in three, or a DL compliment slip flat. "Wallet" means the flap is on the long side. It is the size most practices send every day, and the lowest-priced envelope in the builder.

C5 pocket, 162 x 229mm. Takes an A4 sheet folded once, or an A5 booklet or card flat. "Pocket" means the flap is on the short side. It suits brochures, invitations and thicker packs that would bulge in a DL. It is priced at 500 in the builder ($855) and quoted above that.

C4 pocket, 229 x 324mm. Takes an A4 document or report flat, unfolded. It is the envelope for contracts, signed documents, annual reports and anything that should arrive without a crease. It is priced at 500 in the builder ($1,220) and quoted above that.

The larger sizes cost more per envelope. If your mail is mostly letters, DL covers it. If you regularly send documents flat, a small run of C4 alongside your DL stock is common.

How much do printed envelopes cost?

500 printed DL envelopes cost $435 inc GST and 1,000 cost $575, with metro delivery included. 500 C5 envelopes cost $855 and 500 C4 envelopes cost $1,220.

All prices inc GST, with metro delivery included.

What do we check on an envelope proof?

Every printed envelope is checked by a person against our written proof checklist. For envelopes, we look at:

  • Trim size and safe area for the size you have chosen, and whether your design is set to the right envelope template.
  • The address area. We check that your design leaves a clear area for the recipient's address and postage, and flag artwork that runs into it.
  • The flap. We check that nothing important sits across the fold or the seal strip.
  • Colour space and brand colour values, so the envelope sits alongside your letterhead without looking mismatched.
  • Fonts embedded or outlined, and fine text that may soften on envelope stock.
  • Return address, phone numbers, emails and web addresses formatted consistently with the rest of your stationery.
  • Stock, size and quantity match the approved quote.

How long do printed envelopes take to arrive?

Our target for printed envelopes is 7 to 10 business days after you approve the proof. Envelopes take a little longer than flat stationery. If you are ordering a full suite, your consultant times the run so everything arrives together.

Delivery to metro Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Adelaide and Canberra is included in every price. Perth, Hobart, Darwin and regional addresses are quoted at cost before you pay. Priority turnaround adds 25% (minimum $95) and dispatches one business day sooner where the product allows; your consultant confirms the date before you pay.

Which envelopes are quoted rather than built online?

Your consultant quotes three kinds of envelope work:

  • Window faces, for letters addressed through the envelope.
  • Envelopes printed in one or two Pantone (PMS) colours, which suit a logo with a precise brand colour.
  • Runs above 1,000, in any size.

Tell us how you send mail (addressed by hand, by label, or through a window) and we will recommend a size and construction.

Envelopes are part of The Practice Suite, with cards, letterheads, compliment slips and folders under one design direction.

Questions

Something else? All questions or ask your consultant.

Which envelope fits an A4 letter?

A DL envelope takes an A4 sheet folded in three. A C5 takes A4 folded once (A5 size). A C4 takes A4 flat, which suits contracts, reports and documents you do not want creased.

Do you print window envelopes?

Yes, as quoted work. Window faces are quoted by your consultant, along with envelopes printed in one or two Pantone (PMS) colours and runs above 1,000.

Can I order 1,000 C5 or C4 envelopes?

The builder prices C5 and C4 envelopes at 500. For 1,000 or more, your consultant quotes the run so we can confirm stock and lead time with you first.

How do the envelopes seal?

They have a peel-and-seal flap: remove the strip and press the flap closed. No moistening needed.

Is there a minimum order?

Our minimum order is $150 inc GST. Printed envelopes start at $435 for 500 DL envelopes, which is already above it.

Will my brand colours match my letterhead?

We check your colour values on every file. Envelope stock can print colour slightly differently from letterhead paper, so if exact colour matters, brand colour match is $95 per design and we note the values for every reorder.
